  • 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric root grated (or 1 1/2 teaspoons ground turmeric)

  • 1 cinnamon stick or 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 –4 cardamom pods lightly crushed (or 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom)
